The Upside of Falling

"Because you go somewhere else when you read. I want to go there with you."

The Upside of Falling is a standalone novel by Alex Light. Her book was originally written on the website Wattpad where more of her works can be found.

Becca Hart is a bookworm and very inexperienced in the realm of relationships. So when her ex-BFF teases her on the fact, she defends herself by pretending to have a boyfriend. Brett Wells sees this as his chance to get friends and family off his back about not having a girlfriend and ends up taking the place as Becca's fake boyfriend.

The fake dating trope is one of my favorites to be written. There are so many ways that it can go right and so many more where it can go terribly wrong. This book is a great example of the trope going horribly perfect. When both characters are forced to face their own problems, it also pushes their relationship to new levels. I loved reading this book, especially because I wasn't able to put it down. It was short and sweet and was the perfect quick read that I needed. The main character, Becca, was extremely relatable throughout the book, especially when it comes to her love of reading. While I did love reading this book, the plot line was pretty predictable, which was the only disappointing part of the book for me. There may have been one or two surprises, but in the end, it ended the exact way that I thought it would. Even with all of this, I could read it over and over again and not get tired of it.

I recommend this book to anyone who also loves the fake dating trope. You might be able to guess what happens, but it will still be a fun read. I also recommend it to those who are either in a reading slump or just need a fun and quick read.

Overall, my rating of this book is 3/5 stars. It's a great book and was well worth adding to my growing hoard of books.
